Happy New Year!

Posted in: Life|1 January, 20124 Comments

Did you manage to stay up and see in the new year last night?

[OK, I have just read what follows and it's all a bit stream of consciousness-y but bear with it - I get to the point eventually].

I am always up past midnight so it was easy-peasy for me to enjoy the celebrations. I’ve hated having to go to bed ever since I was a kid; never wanting to let go of the day and only interested in the ‘now’.

Hmm. where’s this going? I think I am trying to say (to myself as much as anyone) is that I am going to try and buckle down to making plans and seeing them through beyond the initial exciting ‘now’ stages and out into the magical mysterious beyond of the future. By doing this maybe I can achieve some bigger and better things!

I have a million plans and even more ideas. Schemes? I have two million of those. I’m going to pick the ones that jump out the highest – that need the most attention ( I am looking at you, bathroom scales) and apply myself with endeavour and passion (I’m looking at you, writing desk).

So if I was going to pick a word to see me through the year (which I am in my head right now… OK, got it) it would be STRIVE.

How about you – any resolutions (or revolutions)? Maybe a word to live by, to help you through 2012?

Happy New Year, lovely ones! x

Good luck with your resolutions Angie – two weeks in, I hope you are still going strong. I lost about 10 kilos last year and it was almost by accident. I’m one of those people who has been on a diet since I was about 12 and nothing had ever worked. Then, last year, I was promoted and, suddenly, I was working all hours in an office without a vending machine. I was getting home and supper would be waiting. No pre-dinner snacks. I also had a couple of big photo projects so, once I had eaten my meal, I’d get straight to editing pictures. And I would keep that up until it was time for me to go to bed too. So my only conclusion is that by cutting out snacks between meals (especially the ones I used to eat before and after supper), I managed to loose weight I’d been trying to get rid of for nearly two decades. I’m rambling but it still amazes me. So my resolution, after having eaten a whole tin of Quality Street, two whole cakes and a bakery’s worth of bread nearly on my own over the holidays, is to not put that weight back on. I have a few on-going creative projects and I’m just hoping they’ll distract me enough from sticking my head in the fridge every ten minutes for a little while.

Well done you, that’s amazing!!! Considering you live in the land of chocolate, chips and beer, that’s very good going!
I too have been on a diet since the age of 12 and am convinced that is why I have these issues today.
So far I’m still going strong (yay) and think you’ve hit the nail on the head here – bad-eating comes from triggers in your head, not your tummy, so keep your head busy and you’re halfway there!
