Weekendamondo

Posted in: Digital, Life, Photography|14 October, 20111 Comment

Some weeks are definitely longer than others, aren’t they. Here we are again though (I was on the slow train, for sure), it’s Friday evening and the weekend starts here (yay)!

If you fancy doing a photography e-course led by a hugely talented, passionate and creative soul, then you’re in luck – Susannah Conway is running Photo Meditations: Infusing Your Images with Soul and the registration opens on Saturday at 4pm (BST) so be quick! However big or small your camera I know you will love this wonderful introduction to the exciting world of telling your own story with photography.

I’m going to have to start my (long) list for Father Christmas soon as I have spotted the calendar I want for 2012 – look at this, it’s amazing, a tear off Polaroid calendar, a picture every day. Want!

In case you were on another planet and weren’t around to get your ear bent by me; I have been spreading my wings a little recently and contributing to some other websites! Namely Lomography, The Guardian and Digital Photography School. I have more on the horizon too, but don’t worry, you won’t escape hearing about them! Probably best to make sure you’re following me on Twitter and/or facebook just in case though ;)

Everyone loves a photo of a flower, don’t they – I bet you’ve not seen may like this though – ingenious!

Have a lovely, lovely weekend – I hope you get to spend it just the way you want to.

Mono

Posted in: Digital, Photography|2 November, 20105 Comments

It’s one of the most colourful times of the year, the trees are amazing and every shade of yellow, red and bronze you can imagine. So what could be more fitting than a quick little collection of black and white images!

I love black and white photos, don’t you? When you take away the colour, suddenly you’re much more aware of the textures and composition.

I think I’m going to shoot a roll of old-school black and white film to remind myself of what proper black and white looks like – to see how colours look in monotone. Just flipping the ‘convert to black and white’ switch on your camera or in your image editing software isn’t always convincing – with these I’ve adjusted each colour level separately and done it by eye but there’s probably a more scientific way to approach it – I’ll let you know if there is (and it works).

August break V

Posted in: Digital, Photography|5 August, 20104 Comments

I’m going to show my age now and admit to remembering a time when supermarkets didn’t really go in for stocking huge quantities of milk or dairy products, everyone had their milk delivered to the door. Everyone. You paid the milkman by leaving the cash on the doorstep next to the milk on a Friday. As a kid if you got up early enough the milkman would let you ride along in the milk-float to the end of your road. All these innocent things seem so far behind me now – further than the 30 odd years that I remember.

It’s good to see milk is still being delivered to people much more organised than me, I bet they don’t get to ride along with the driver and eat out-of-date yoghurts though…

Both photos taken with Canon 5D MKII and 17-40mm f/4 L lens
