July is such a wonderful month in the garden – a time to sit back at watch it all flourish – except you don’t get much of a chance because it all needs picking and eating (or plonking into jars).
I’m having a hard job keeping up with the sweet peas, this is about my tenth pickle-jar packed full of highly scented blooms and there’s no sign of this single, little, magical wigwam stopping production any time soon!

The tomatoes are preparing to go equally crazy – and I can’t wait! We’ve got all manner of varieties to chomp on any day now. Waiting. Waiting…

As well as the aubergines, courgettes, peppers, chillies, blueberries, rhubarb and broccoli there are the two ancient apple trees to look forward to – one of which is getting impatient and plopping little reminders inches from my head whenever I walk underneath it, just to keep me on my toes.

My traisping around the local cemetery is well documented on this blog (promise I’m not a goth. Not anymore).

It’s Victorian and not used any more but is beautifully overgrown and maintained in its ramshackle condition as a historic and beautiful site in its own right.

Amongst the dilapidated grave stones (so many stories we’ll never know) nature thrives and flourishes like nowhere else I’ve seen in a city. There was a mound of heather covered in at least 100 tiny butterflies and the noise of the crickets/grasshoppers was constant. There were bees and weird insects of every shape and size. Squirrels, Jays, magpies and so many other birds. We saw a squirrel and have heard tale of deer living deep, deep in the undergrowth.

I had a great day at the Asian Mela in Southampton today. Lots of colour, dancing and delicious Indian food in the sunshine. I only had a few shots left on my little Lomo so pics will follow shortly once film dev + scanned.

Earlier in the day I paid a trip to the optician. As I suspected I will need glasses for close up stuff like reading. Luckily everything is fine and dandy at other distances, so things should stay mainly in focus photo-wise for a while yet! It’s been hard work focusing to read and I have missed reading books – just sticking to what I really have to read. I pick up the glasses next week so may have to treat myself to a few books to devour.

How did this one get away? I remmeber when I took it – driving back home from Cornwall in the midst of the Wiltshire countryside. I turned round and saw this! I insisted on stopping and unpacking most of the car to get to my camera collectio – this one was taken with my Fuji Instax 200 – an instant camera which did pretty well in the low light.

I recently had a spark of an idea ignite in my head and now a week later it has mushroomed into a big exciting plan. It’s going to be fun but very hard work – can’t wait to share – you’ll hear it here first!
It’s very pleasing to be able to escape to the countryside at a moments notice; only 20 minutes away from the city centre. I love that there are ponies roming free through the forest and that lots of farmers still let ‘weeds’ grow. That I can see where my food comes from and breathe the fresh, fresh air.
